  1. Go back about 50 years and watch some old Popeye cartoons.  You know that green stuff he eats??

The iron vegetables contain is much more soluble than the iron pills contain.  If you ever have any need for any additional vitamins in your diet, you're always better off getting them directly from the vegetables rather than a pill.

  2. Vegetarians are highly susceptible to iron deficiency, so you should have a blood panel done. Once you have that information, you will know better what to do.

  3. Taking iron supplements will not improve performance unless an athlete is truly iron deficient. Too much iron can cause constipation, diarrhea, nausea and may interfere with the absorption of other nutrients such as copper and zinc. Therefore, iron supplements should not be taken without proper medical supervision.

  4. You should take an iron supplement if you've been diagnosed with an iron deficiency or if you're experiencing symptoms related to an iron deficiency.  Don't take iron just for the sake of taking it; excess iron is toxic.

  5. Not unless you're anemic or iron deficcient.
