SUNY Buffalo, Rutgers, Penn State, RPI, Syracuse, WPI, BU.

I'm not going to get into MIT or EMbry-Riddle, so are these some good schools for that major in the northeast? Which has the best program?

  1. On a list from PayScale.com ranking engineering colleges by salary potential, WPI and RPI rank 6th and 8th:

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) $72,200

California Institute of Technology (CIT) $75,500

    Harvey Mudd College $71,800

Polytechnic University of New York, Brooklyn $62,400

    Cooper Union $62,200

    Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) $61,000

    Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) $61,800

    Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) $61,100

The partial list above includes median starting salaries.  You can see a full list of schools along with median mid-career salaries here: http://www.payscale.com/best-colleges/be...

  2. I'd go with SUNY Buffalo, Rutgers or RPI. I was a mechanical at SUNY Buffalo and apart from a semester or so of extra classes for the aeros (and different electives), the curriculum for the 2 majors are the same and was very good. You also have undergraduate research projects available and wind tunnels for use at SUNY Buffalo. Not sure about the other 2 for that aspect. Rutgers should be good as well and RPI is great for technical sciences but is a little on the pricey side.
