As britain became more democratic, why did free traders demand reforms that would put an end to protective?

tariffs?

1. they believed that if defensive tariffs ewere restored tot eh marketplace, merchants everywhere would be able to sell their goods at higher prices.

2. they believed that if protective tariffs were lifted, their sales taxes would be lowered and competition decreased.

3. they believed thast if the tariffs were abolished, merchants everywhere would have larger markets in which to sell their goods.

4. they believed that if the tariffs were removed, people would benefit from an elimination of competition and a smaller marketplace.
