As crude oil price goes up, will the price per share of XOM, BP,CVX go down?

  1. Depends on their refining margins.  If they cant raise the price on their refined products that will squeeze their refining margins and stock prices could go down.


  2. I own MRO and am surprised at how depressed the stock price is despite this incredible run up in the price of crude. As a previous poster alludes to a lot of that has to do with refining margins. I also believe the impact of an Obama administration is finding it's way into the price of oil stocks. He has oil companies clearly in his sites as companies to s***w over and I believe many of his policies will plunge us into a deep recession ala Jimmy Carter which will also hurt the oil companies.

  3. Look for companies that have the least exposure to the refining business. Theoretically their stock prices should go up, since stock prices are puportedly based on the value of future earnings.
