  1. Yep.

    Stupid.

    Pointless.

    Boring.

    Dangerous.

    Dull.

    Polluting.

    Waste of time!

  2. Yes, it should be replaced with competitive pillow fights and tickling.

  3. I heard Diane Rehm bring up the same point on her show. I'm thinking, 'NPR must have one h**l of a carbon footprint. Let's shut it down too!'

  4. If you're asking this question from a global warming point of view, then the answer is 'of course not!'.  F! has great fans around the globe, and it's a thrill to watch.  The carbon they create is harmless on a global scale.

  5. Why not? When we have finished hanging out the smokers out to dry. Lets pick on car drivers next.

  6. Lets get rid of NASCAR instead. How many times can you watch a car go around in circles.

  7. My anwser is NO. I am an F1 fan, have been since the 8th grade, so i guess I'm a little biased. F1 is the epitamy of the gasoline engine. It represents the petrol car at it's best. People like Clare (ignorant) need to realize that racing evolves just as modern transportation does. How dare you make such a comment only to hop in your gas vehicle to go shopping for another pair of shoes. F1 has responed to pollution problems. Just this year the FIA required the cars to run a V8 engine. They used to be V12's , then V10's. Maybe when Clare, along with the rest of the world stops drinking Gasoline, F1 will follow suit.

  8. yeah, its pointless and dangerous!

why do they put themselfs and the world in danger for money?

  9. Not at all.

F1 has bought the automotive industry many technological benefits (ABS brakes, crumple zones, etc). and innovations made in improving efficiency in F1 will continue to trickle down into normal cars.

The next season of F1 will introduce stricter fuel / CO limits, so it will be interesting to see the new developments.

  10. No of course not.

It's a good sport plus the fact it's too late now anyway and if you were to take their cars, you'd have to get rid of cars fullstop.

  11. I love that people who want to ban things for the environment, usually start with things they don't like or don't understand. You should start by doing without things you like then say I have made the sacrifice and look outward to other things. F1 does outstanding things to improve automobiles. Many safety, economy and aerodynamic improvements in the auto industries have come from F1. F1 also gives bread and circuses to our society. Additionally they use alcohol for their fuel which is made from biomass. Without F1 where would we have gotten modern methods for creating bio-fuel.  Bio-fuel in effect does not add new carbon to the environment because it takes it out of the air in the first place when it is made. F1 hardly pollutes because a polluting engine is an inefficient engine, they want theirs to burn as clean as possible. Why don't you do your part to help global warming by shutting off your computer in protest.

  12. u dont have a point in asking that question.....

    meaninglessssss...

  13. yep, F1 is used to advertise car manufacting, and gives the impression faster is better.  Cars pollute, driving them fast pollutes.  Although the total pollution of F1 is relatively small compared to the number of cars globally, their influence is massive.  On saying that, consider the carbon footprint of an F1 team, shipping cars around the world, it's not just the race.  Why not walk to your local pub & play darts& dominoes? much less polluting...

  14. Wouldn't the pollution from F1 racing be offset by millions of people around the world sitting at home watching it instead of driving their cars to do something else?

    Just a thought!

  15. These type of questions only add fuel to the argument that AGW is being used for social engineering.  I am not a fan of motor sports and never have been.  I do not want to see a group of individuals determine it should be stopped to enforce their own view of environmental morality.

  16. Lots of Communist answers in here.

After you ban car racing, what's next, banning RC car racing?

"You're using too much battery power that is killing the planet! The little tires are tearing up the grass!"

    Oh, the horror!

  17. I've always thought that one day some "green" considerations will have to be adopted by F1 and other motorsports. Given that part of the competition is the technical challenge maybe something should be introduced to get the teams focussed on fuel efficiency or alternative fuel.

Maybe give them all a fixed fuel allowance for each race so that running out of fuel in the final laps is a possibility.

  18. oh yeah real fun, green racing. 10mph and stopping when it gets cloudy or your batteries run low and spending 5 hours charging them.

  19. I've thought about this myself.

If driving around in cars is so bad for the planet, why aren't motorsports like F1 banned?
