ive read the comment by joseph smith that quotes the verse in the bible where people are described as being in "torment" in the presense of holy angels.

but at the same time i know He says that Mormon will go to h**l, even LDS, who do not repent.

the bible lists at least 4 other descriptions of h**l. the lake of fire, the second death, Outer darkness, even death and h**l and spirit prison.

how can there be lds people who believe one way or another? what reasoning do you have that h**l does not exist except in the form of gehenna or the grave!

  1. yes

  2. Mchughes is taking quotes out of context...they are not official Mormon Doctrine.  h**l is outer darkness where Satan and all his demons will reside and all those who are LDS who tasted of the gifts of the spirit of God and renounced them for the things of the world..including ex Mormons for Jesus types. They have sinned and blasphemed against the Holy Spirit.  Murderers, homicidal maniacs, Genocidal murderers and many other sinners who sinned against mankind and God and didn't repent will experience Outer Darkness.

  3. I would be interested in  where the Bible says people are in "torment" in the presence of holy angels.

I don't recall the Bible saying that.

  4. h**l it is a state of having the truth revealed to you about God (after your death from mortal life and judgement) and knowing you denied God, and knowing what could have been. It is knowing that you could have been part of God's kingdom but made the wrong choices.

God does not send people to h**l, He simply reveals the truth to them. "h**l" is the hard truth. It's a state of being, not a "lake of fire."

It's a state of being that could be compared to a lake of fire in the way it makes one miserable--

  5. No, there is no division.  Some people may misunderstand it, but I'll try to clarify that for you here.

    As I understand it...

When we die, if we lived righteously and had the fullness of the gospel on the earth we will go to spirit paradise and basically become like missionaries.

If we didnt live righteously or we didnt understand the fullness of the gospel, we will be visited by these missionaries that will teach us the complete truths and offer the chance to repent.  It is at that point the work we do in the temple can take effect.  If the people choose to believe in the plan and follow christ, they can then accept the ordinances we perform and are given the millenial period as a time to repent.

So I guess you could say these people will be in torment or anguish with what are essentially angels there to help guide them through it.  But its just part of the repentance process of feeling bad for the things you did wrong and your missed opportunities.

Then, at some point, Christ will come again, the righteous will be resurrected and the rest will be left to prepare themselves for the judgement at their resurrection.  So they will be left to go through the repentance process a little longer.

Then they will be resurrected and all people will be judged and assigned to a kingdom or inheritance.  Those who had a true testimony that jesus was the christ and received the holy ghost's witness will stand accountable for their denial of that witness.  Those people are they who run the rist of being cast out into eternal darkness where there will be no return to the presence of God.  Surely they will be sad and tormented at that point for the awful misery they are in.  But it was their will to be seperated from God, not His to be seperated from them.

Those who never received the holy ghost's witness on the earth will go to the lowest kingdom to be taught and guided by His spirit.

Those who did the best they could and lived according to the light they received go to the middle glory and those who received the fullness of understanding, received both the holy ghost and Jesus Christ, are then prepared to enter into the presence of the Father and inherit all that He has to Give.

No one I know of denies the presence of a h**l.  Its called outer darkness.  We dont believe like many churches that most people will go there, but it is a very real place.

Where did you hear that we dont believe that?  It is either a misunderstanding or someone doesnt know their doctrine.

    Edit:

I love when people use a quote that starts with... has.... in the middle and ends with ....  Thats how you know it MUST be reliable.

    What a joke.

  6. h**l exists, but we don't believe it's the same as what other Christians believe.

  7. I don't think the Church is divided.  It's just like the 4 blind men trying to figure out what an elephant looks like.  h**l is any nasty place that you can't easily leave.  Personally I look at h**l as first spirit prison and secondarily outer darkness.

The torment in the presence of angels was what Alma experienced.  It was the immediate confrontation with all his sins contrasted against purity.  It was an intense experience that only the power of repentence overcame.

  8. what are you talking about?

Hey, Witness of Christ, can you tell us your experience with the angel that visited you?

  9. I do not think the church is divided, but the member's understanding of it.

I think "h**l" is spirit prison, it could be separation from God or loved ones, it could be not being able to do those "sins" that a person loved so much... h**l could have lots of meanings.  h**l can be the time when unrepentant people have to pay for their own sins.  Yes, even Mormons will have some type of "h**l" I think.  I can't remember which prophet said it, but he said he had a vision of the 3 kingdoms and he was so saddened by how many were in the Telestial Kingdom.

I pretty much think not being with my family forever would be h**l.

  10. As far as the LDS is Concerned, they teach what is 'Comfortable' to teach, The teaching of h**l ? well the very mention of the word provokes strong emotion from just about everyone, I mean really, To teach that those who do not adhere to the teachings of LDS version of God will suffer an eternity in burning flame and seperation from God is something that people just don't want to think very much about, makes people uncomfortable.

Throughout history many authors have written about it, Dante's Inferno for example. Western culture is very familiar with the concept. Even Hollywood has made it the subject of many movies.

That may be as good an answer as to why the LDS is spilt about it's teaching

  11. Here are some LDS quotes regarding h**l.

"And if we go to h**l we will turn devils out of doors and make a heaven out of it."  (History of the Church, 5:517)

"h**l is by no means the place this world of fools suppose it to be, but on the contrary, it is quite an agreeable place…"  (Nauvoo Expositor)

"And the day will yet come when they will come to me and acknowledge me as their savior, and I will redeem them and bring them forth from h**l to where I live and make them my servants…Heber C. Kimball (Journal of Discourses, 3:109).

A Mormon prophet, Joseph Fielding Smith taught that the maximum sentence in h**l was one thousand years.  (Doctrine of Salvation, 3:60)  A contrast to this is in the Book of Mormon, which teaches, "…there is a h**l and it is a permanent, or final, place of torment."  (Alma 34:32-35)
