As far as statistics go, who is actually the better team? Pens or Wings?

All I really hear are opinions about who the better team is.

I really think Detroit is because of the goalie, he is as important in hockey as a pitcher is in baseball, and Ozzie is d**n good!!!

Detroit is the better team.  They won the president's trophy (again) this year for having the best record in th league. They have home ice advantage and won the Western Conference already.  Crosby and his boys don't stand a chance against my boys in red.

Both team are good. Honestly, it's hard to say who is better.

The Wings are without a doubt the best team in the West and the Pens are without a doubt the best team in the East.

The Wings have been a good team for a long time, and the Pens have really hit it off this year.

The only answer you're going to recieve are biased answer. And no matter if the person says they aren't being biased and answer with one team or another they ARE. The Wings and the Pens are TWO COMPLETE DIFFERENT TEAMS. They play different styles....YOU CAN'T COMPARE THE TWO.

Honestly, I'm not looking at the answer by other people. I'm in a bad mood already and biased homers will only make it worse.

Wings had more points, More goals scored for, less goals against, better home record and better away record...they were statistically better.

Statistics do not make the team. Just because a team puts up good numbers, it dosnt mean they are the best mean, just look at the Sharks for instance. Why do you need stats, dont you have your own opinion???

Detroit has the top 4 players in +/- (Zetterberg +15, Datsyuk +12 Franzen(been hurt of course) +9 and Lidstrom +9).

Detroit has a better GAA(I personally consider it a team stat but they list it for goalie) and fleury has the better save percentage.

Scoring Pit has 3 of the top 5 in points and have played less games. Pit and Detroit are tied on the penalty kill and Pit is operating at 25% on the pp to Detroit's 21.3%.

Given all this, since it seems u wanted a detailed answer, I guess it's up to you to decide. I see it as wings in 5 and it's not going to be as good as people are saying. Check out Mckeown's column on yahoo's nhl page. He breaks it down well. Hope that helps.

Well, Detroit is the better "team".  They dominated all year long in a more competitive Conference.  The Wings also play their best hockey against teams like Pittsburgh.  They match up very well with skill teams.  Look at Detroit's record... they didn't do very well against the scrappy "nothing to lose" teams in the Central, but dominated the rest of the league.  The better the team, the better the game you will see from Detroit.  Pittsburgh loves to play an offensive game, which totally plays into the hands of the Wings.  They are a great puck moving team and I think Pittsburgh knows this, but will still be a little shell shocked in the first two games of the series.

Also don't underestimate the series Detroit had against Dallas.  This Dallas team as the 5th seed is better than probably every team in the East.
