As far as sushi, what is the difference between blue fin and toro?

I have had toro before which I know is the belly of a tuna fish but I also heard that blue fin was the belly of tuna as well. I am a little confused.

  1. Blue fin is the name of the species. Like Angus for beef. It's a breed of cow just like Blue Fin Tuna is a type of tuna. You can have Blue Fin, Yellowfin, Bigeye tuna and so on.

    Toro is the cut of meat just like T-bone or sirloin on a cow. Toro is expensive because there is less of it on the fish and it tastes better due to the higher fat content compared to the rest of the tuna.

    toro is the Japanese word for the belly of the Tuna ...

    It is like cow , where we have the different area of the beef classified differently .....for Japanese the blue fin tuna is like the a cow... they have classify different area of the cuts to a different name..

    only true shisemi eater or a good japanese resturant will let you really know what your are getting..
