  1. traditionally only the father of the bride, the groom and the best man make speeches, but at my wedding my hubbys father got up and made a speech.

i found this page on wedding speech etiquette for you. it even mentions the father of the groom.

good luck! and dont forget to thank the bridesmaids!

  2. Congratulate the couple and welcome your daughter in law to the family.  :)

  3. I don't think you are required to give a speech. It's usually the best man, maid of honor and the father or the bride

  4. You MAY be asked to say "a few words" at the Rehearsal Dinner . . and you MAY be asked to "give a toast" at the reception.  Keep it short and simple!!

Here's the perfect "short and simple" toast . .

Ladies and gentlemen, I take great pleasure in proposing a toast to the Bride and Groom.  Mary and John, here are three little things I wish for you:  warm moments that are shared together . . a thousand tomorrows filled with love . . and a lifetime of hopes and dreams that come true.  Best wishes to Mr and Mrs John Edward Smith!
