in a fatal collision? Will exotic battery power, like lithium batteries blow up, electrocute everthing in the car, would it be like a cell phone near a gas station with static?

  1. Hybrids are extremely dangerous. Their thin body design, (to make them light), crumple like a soda can on impact. And you're right, the high voltage and battery acid pose a huge risk in an accident.

Hybrids and economy cars aren't built for the safety minded people, they're built to save fuel so there will be more available for the people that drive the safe cars.

  2. Whey they do use lithium batteries remember that they use cobalt in their formulas, which tends to explode.

Automakers are scrambling to find an alternative to cobalt which would provide the same amount of power but are having no luck..

As for the safety issues and I know that I will get hammered for this, they are built very light weight and yes even though they are rated safe you really need to see one of them after an accident, there is not much left from the ones that I have seen while working with insurance companies.

Another thing that I have read concerning hybrid vehicles is that they are too quite, yes too quite and many more people have been hit by them as well.
