to please keep children away from mowers. I know it seems like common sense but last year I was at work and my husband decided to mow with our two small children. Our three year old decided he wanted to ride and was running along the mower he slipped and fell and his right foot went under the deck. I got off work early that day and pulled into our drive to find first responders around our son he was sitting on the front steps. He was missing three toes. Oh my God, what a horrible thing for a 3 year old or any child he was airlifted to U of I hospitals he was in surgery for three hours they were able to save his fourth toe. Luckily it just toof the toes. Since this ive heard horror stories worse accidents then this with children and mowers. Please do not judge us we have been through enough he is one tough little guy it was a month before he would put pressure on it we had to do dressing changes three times a day. This just is so fresh in our minds still please be careful

  1. I am so sorry and glad to hear that he is ok now. Thanks for the reminder my kids are 6 and 8 and do set outside (on the patio) while my husband mows and I have thought it was ok if they stayed on the patio/concrete areas. I agree with you now my youngest is very impulsive and I could see her doing that.

Do not beat yourselves up and no one is judging you.

  2. sorry about your baby. accidents happen and hubby was not being negligent.

  3. Oh my -- my heart goes out to you.  My prayer is some good comes out of what you've experienced as it serves as a warning to others.

    God Bless You.

(And, by the way, He has forgiven you, your son has too I'm sure.  So forgive yourself.)

  4. Yeah that is good to point out. I had a friend that knew somebody that got their toes cut off by a push mower. A riding mower would be worse. I mow the lawn with both, riding and push mower. A few times I thought it was gonna tip over when I was on a hill. It is a scary thought. Well I am sorry to hear about your son, that is a tough thing to overcome! Well I hope he is alright now and good luck with any obsticles that come with this. Thank you for posting this. People need a reminder sometimes. Well God Bless you and your family

  5. My prayers are with you and your family, thanks for the reminder of how dangerous lawn mowers can be.
