As new owner takes charge, Ed Wade and Tal Smith dismissed from Houston Astros – MLB News
As the Houston Astros saw one of the biggest changes in the club’s history with Jim Crane purchasing the organisation, the second big change came on Monday, November 28 when the club decided to dismiss general manager Ed Wade and president of baseball operations
for the Houston Astros Tal Smith.
The move is considered a major one as one that will be a major shakeup to completely alter their outlook. Only a week ago had Jim Cane, a successful Houston businessman, formally assumed control of the Houston Astros.
Previously it was Drayton McLane who remained the club’s owner. The Major League Baseball owners in a historic move approved the $610 million purchase of the Houston Astros in early November.
Soon after the purchase was made, Crane had clearly said some changes were in the way. Although it might not have been expected or anticipated, the dismissal of Ed Wade and Tal Smith was the first thing to come.
The change, for Crane, the new owner of the club is important. Soon after the move was made, George Postolos, the president and the CEO of the Houston Astros state that he had informed both Ed Wade and Tal Smith about the decision, which was that of change.
"With the change in ownership, we would like a fresh start in baseball operations," Postolos said in announcing the moves. "We have told Ed Wade and Tal Smith that we are making a change. We recognize their dedication to the Houston Astros. We thank each
of them for their significant contributions and many years of service to the Astros, and wish them our very best as they pursue new opportunities.”
For his part, Wade said he was disappointed as he did not get any change to see it through to the end. He also referred to the strides that he and the team made while he served as the general manager for four seasons.
The hurdles that he had worked through, like he commented, might enable the team in the long run to regain the glory the club once enjoyed in the Major League.
