what other elements are important to help people decide how to vote?

Issues are becoming important.  We all have things we care about, and the candidate who best represents our views is the one who will get our vote.

Most people used to pick a party, and just go with it.

I think that we are now seeing more split tickets as people are becoming more aware of the differences between candidates.

This is going to produce some interesting elections, with more political views emerging, and fewer clear winners.
