I was thinking about adopting when i'm older, but i was thinking about it and nobody from other countries seem to adopt form america.... Is america in great need for people to adopt children there as much as countries like ukraine, china etc. Would it be better adopting form America or one of the countries that everyone seems to be adopting from recently?

Thanks :) xxxx

  1. Its really up to you where you adopt from! What ever you feel comfy with. I am not sure why other people choose other countries over america but i know there is alot of children in america that then to be adopted to. When your time gets closer just do some research and see which works best for you! GOOD LUCK!

  2. America is a complete hassle to adopt in.   The regulations, the waiting lists, the prohibitive costs....on and on and on.

  3. I know other people adopt from other countries but there are plenty of kids  here that want to be adopted and I have been friends with them. they get sad because no one wants them. to me it seems that people only adopt baby's and little kids. but I think you should adopt a kid from where you feel its best to adopt from.

  4. The difference is that America has a great deal of wealth and opportunity, which provides for the children that need adopting here.  There are government programs and the waiting list is actually quite long.  Many people go to other countries simply because they won't have to wait as long to get their kids, and there is a better chance of getting a newborn or young baby which is quite competitive in America.  I plan to adopt as well, but my reason for going out of country is simply that the poverty experienced in the developing world is so extreme that it really is a matter of life and death for those babies.

  5. My personal opinion is America, Every year we have over 600,000 children go into foster care, half of those remain in foster care waiting for adoption. We have less than 100,000 successful adoptions in this country every year. The children are backing up into the system and many will never know what it is like to have a family. Conditions are not great either. I personally lived with abusive foster parents, F.P. that had no running water or lights, F.P. that sold our EBT food stamps for crack, the system sucks. Like I said if it was me I would pick a child from here in america. But then again I have lived in the system and dont have the common misconseption that all the kids with no families are well taken care of by our government.

  6. I've looked into adoption and what I've found is that it's much "harder" to adopt a child in America. It seems to me that there are many more children and it's easier to adopt them out of more impoverished nations. You mentioned China... you should consider that while there are lots of children available from there, they have many restrictions. No matter what path you choose, there will be a considerable amount of time, money, sweat, and tears involved, for it is a long and drawn out process. You should do a search on "free adoption information" or "adopting from (country name here)" or "information for adoptive parents". Also, you could search for your state's web site for children's services. There you should be able to find links to adoption services and information. Also, you might consider looking into foster care if you decide to adopt from the US. I've been told (don't know how reliable it is) that being a foster parent can reduce your adoption waiting time considerably.

    Good luck and God Bless!
