  1. I believe the stored energy from the cotton plant wick converts to light and heat energy.


  2. The wick does only its job, it wicks liquid wax out of the pool so it combines more efficiently with air.  The wick is not the fuel source.

    Wax is a hydrocarbon, just like oil; it contains energy in its chemical bonds.  During combustion those chemical bonds are broken and give off light photons and heat.  It also produces combustion products just like oil.

    The transformation is an exothermic chemical reaction (chemical energy) to heat and light (electromagnetic energy)
