As the debut Korean GP unfolded… (Part 2)
After a poor qualifying for 6th place on the grid, the chances for Massa to end on the podium lowered, however the retirement of the two Red Bull drivers and Jenson Button’s pointless finish granted a 3rd place
finish to him. With this brilliant ending the team’s hope for the Constructors’ Championship has revived once again, besides the fact that Red Bull still leads the charts with their 426 points, while McLaren follows them for second place and Ferrari stands
at third. So far the Italian team has 374 points, yet they are still hopeful as the team has more than 100 points to play for, with two more races to go.
Then there was the blast of the day! The Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher who started his race from 9th place on the grid drove past five drivers to end the day at 4th. This has been the best finish from
the driver all through the 2010 season, beating his last best of 6th place. The seven times World Champion has struggled very hard with his Mercedes car only to end for the first time at 6th place earlier this month in Japan, and now
he has finally ended at 4th. With this weekend’s finish the 41 year old, who was already reluctant to give up, has become even more determined to take part in another season despite facing so much criticism all through the year.
One man who returned from the Korean track with a heavy heart was Jenson Button of McLaren. This one was the worst weekend of the season for the Briton as it brought his fight for the title to almost an end. Only a miracle on his
part or a disaster for all the other top four drivers can bring him back now and to be honest expecting any of these will be utterly irrational now.
The race did not serve well for the driver right from the start; after having started from 7th place on the grid he kept facing mishaps every now and then. Initially at the 29th lap he got stuck behind several
slow movers, and then he kept slipping and slowing every now and then. By the time he reached the 36th lap he was only at 15th place. Finally at the 53rd lap another spin by Button ensured that he was far from points now.
Now, with this finish by Button the fans of Hamilton could be a little more satisfied as the team will now be diverting all their focus on the latter and hopefully Button will also play a positive role for Hamilton’s success.
Moreover, the Renault driver, Robert Kubica also got blessed as three of the top five drivers ended pointless giving him fifth place. While the other team driver, Vitaly Petrov had a poor luck as his weekend ended pointless after
meeting an accident at the 39th lap.
The Force India team saw a surprising result as its driver Vitantonio Liuzzi ended at sixth place while Adrian Sutil, who was expected to get some good points, retired on the 46th lap after an unfortunate accident hurting
Kamui Kobayashi of BMW Sauber as well. However, Kobayashi was able to continue the race and ended at 8th place.
On the other hand, both the Williams drivers, ended with points as Rubens Barrichello finished 7th while Nico Hulkenberg, bagged a single point with his 10th place finish. Still the ending was a disaster for
both of them as they were initially running for 5th and 6th
places but only lost their positions in the last 5 laps. Hulkenberg had to pit for fresh tyres at the 51st lap while Barrichello went off the track and lost pace.
Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari stationed himself at 11th place while the other team driver, Sebastien Buemi retired at the 30th lap. Among the finishers, the last two places came to Bruno Senna and Sakon Yamamoto;
both the HRT-Cosworth drivers ended at 14thand 15th places respectively
