My wife just had a baby and so I decided to take 13 days of Convalescent Leave. The commander approved the leave but then the following month I was charged for it. I recently got a letter from the doctor stating the reason and the number of days i took during my time period. It was emailed to the commander and it was dissaproved to get my days back because he said it is chargeable. can someone help me find this in the Regulations where I should be granted my days with a doctors note?

  1. did YOU give birth?   if not, it is Command discretion whether or not you are charged for any time off you may take.  a Doctor's note for you means nothing unless YOU were the one in the hospital as a patient.

there currently is no regulation granting Unchargable leave for new fathers.

  2. You do not get Convalescent Leave because your wife had a baby.

Convalescent Leave is when you are recovering from an injury.

Any leave you took, would be regular chargeable leave.

  3. No, your commander is right.  That was not considered Convalescent Leave.  That type of leave is taken if you are on recovery, or a loved one passes away.  But relax, it is only 13 days.  You'll live

  4. A quick reminder: YOU are in the Military!

not working at some Corporate job!

  5. Unless something new has taken place recently, men do not take convalescent leave when their wives give birth. They take regular leave. "Convalescent" is the type of leave someone is on when they are recovering from an injury or childbirth. Unless you popped that baby out yourself, you are not eligible.
