Question:

As the universe expands...do you think that time is speeding up?

Whenever you get a higher concentration of mass, time actually slows down, theoretically anyways. Like with the concept of black holes, could time actually be slowing down as you approach these objects? Maybe light always travels at a constant in relationship to time, but maybe it is time that speeds up and slows down. Maybe when the big bang happened, time had been at a stand still and as the universe expanded outwards, maybe time sped up. What do you think? I want your own theories. Don't read back to me something someone else has wrote because I have most likely read it already. I was curious to hear your own thoughts. Thanks!

  1. No, actually not, because technically there is no such thing as time, nor has there ever been.

    It is a "modern convenience mindset" created for man for the convenience of man.

    "Time" is not a physical constant, so it can not speed up, nor slow down.

    It has neither mass, nor velocity, nor gravity, nor weight, et. al., ad. inf. (q.v.)

    Hard to get a handle on this?


  2. I don't believe in time. I agree very much with SERENDI...

    I thought I was the only one who thought like this. What bothers me is that we depend on time so much even though it doesn't exist, it's not tangible. We use it in almost every physics equation, we have clocks, etc.

  3. It is possible and logical that the concept of a minute could be more towards the center of the universe and could be less at the edge of the observable universe. But does it directly relate to the speed of the accelerating universe? Im no physicist but I would agree to this statement.

  4. No. Since this is the "universe," you're always approaching the same thing. You can never not approach the universe.

We really can't know as our personal time will also speed up.  We could live 1,000 years or 1,000 seconds but we'd never know the difference.  If the speed of light 'slowed down' to a few mm per century we'd never know that either....to 'us' nothing would change.  We do know that galaxies move away from each other at a given 'speed' over a given period of 'time', but as we've only observed this for a little over a 100 years what does that tell us?  Nothing!  My time is now up!
