Asamoah Gyan aims to shine in EnglandSunderland’s new striker, Asamoah Gyan, has said that he is ready for the challenge of the English Premier League and stated that he will be able to justify his large transfer fee.The 24-year-old forward made the switch from Rennes in France on August 31 — the last day of the summer transfer window — for a fee of above £13m.The Ghana international told BBC Sport that he was delighted to have made the move to the North East of England and that the transfer will help him fulfil a long-held dream. He said that, "It has been my dream to go to England and it is one of the best moments of my career. Definitely I can deal with the pressure, Sunderland is not like Chelsea who can buy players for £15m, but they did, which suggests the coach has a lot of confidence in me and sees the calibre of player I am."Gyan is aware that life in the EPL comes at a cost — fulfilling the expectations of the club, the fans and manager Steve Bruce, to consistently perform at a high level. He said that, “They bought me with a huge amount of money and most of the fans will be expecting extraordinary things. But I am somebody who can soak up the pressure. It is normal that some criticism will come, but as an attacker you just have to focus and do your job."Though he is not a regular scorer (he netted just 14 times in two seasons with Rennes), Gyan is working on that side of his game. It is likely that he will have to do so alongside Darren Bent, who netted 25 times for the Black Cats in the 2009-10 season. Gyan revealed he is looking forward to having the chance to work with the England international. He said that, “He has got a lot of pace and I have pace too, but individually I can hold the ball well and I think we are going to cause harm to a lot of defenders."
