Asamoah Gyan delighted with debut strike for SunderlandNew Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan revealed today that he was delighted with his start to life in the English Premier League. The 24-year-old, who joined from French outfit Rennes over the summer on a four-year deal for a club record fee of £13m, made his debut against Wigan Athletic on Saturday. The Ghana international was introduced as a substitute by manager Steve Bruce at the start of the second half and, despite Sunderland being a man down after Captain Lee Cattermole was sent off early on, was able to help the Black Cats claim a vital point when he struck the opening goal in the 66th minute.Sunderland was not able to hang on to the lead, as Antolin Alcaraz netted for the home side late on, but Gyan was delighted to get his EPL career off to a dream start.'Perfect cross'He told the Sunderland Echo that midfielder Jordan Henderson should take some of the credit for his goal after delivering a cross with pinpoint accuracy. Gyan said that, “I think my goal was really nice. Perfect. The goal was very, very amazing and it was great that it was for my new club. Jordan did so well, taking one man on and producing a perfect cross to create my goal. It was one of my best goals, though — I don't score goals like that all the time!"Gyan, who starred for his country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa as they reached the quarter-final, added that he did not think he would be introduced after midfielder Cattermole’s sending-off.He said that, “It was really, really difficult for us after having a man sent off in the first half and, being a striker, I did not expect to get on because of that. I thought it was possible I might get on with 20 minutes to go, but the manager did so well tactically and I thank him for having confidence in me.”
