A 78th minute strike from Mayuka broke the Ghanaian hearts as Zambia progressed to the final where they eventually downed Ivory Coast to lift the trophy.
However, the 26-year-old is feeling relieved after returning to the country and vows to restart his impressive run in the UAE Pro-League after a month-long break. He expressed his gratitude to Al Ain fans for their support and
is confident of carrying on with his goalscoring form in the future games.
Gyan stated that he was continuously keeping tabs on the club’s progress, while being away on international duty. He also expressed his delight on the club’s recent progress as the club sit top of the league table with 30 points
from 13 games.
While talking to the official club’s website, the former Rennes striker further added:
“I thank you all for everything you have done to me since I joined Al Ain. I don't have the words to thank Al Ain fans. I felt big love that I feel only within my family. In fact, I was away of the club by body only, but my heart
and soul stayed here in Al Ain. I’m really happy for my team also because they kept on top of the standings.”
On the other hand, Al Ain manager, Cosmin Olaroiu, expressed his pleasure at the striker’s return, and hopes to see him scoring goals consistently. He opined that the recently concluded AFCON has further developed Gyan as a player.
“He’s looking sharp to be honest. I think the Africa Cup of Nations has brought him back a better player,” Olaroiu concluded.
The Ghana international joined Al Ain on-loan from Sunderland last year and so far has netted 12 goals from 10 league appearances for the Emirati club.
