Asamoah Gyan unlikely to return to Sunderland after joining UAE side Al-Ain on a season long loan
Sunderland striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 side on Saturday, as his side were preparing
to host English Premier League giants Chelsea.
His absence made a big difference for the Black Cats as they lost their first choice striker moments before the match. Instead, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce had to rely on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726 as a sole striker against the Blues.
While the 23-year-old did fairly well, he was no match for the experienced Chelsea defence, who were not having their best days. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 won the match 2-1, securing all three points and leaving Sunderland with the bitter taste of defeat at home.
Gyan revealed he had agreed to the move after the club had accepted Al-Ain’s offer and added that he did not think he would return to the Stadium of Light again. The Ghanaian said he was excited about playing in the UAE after his move was confirmed.
Gyan said in an interview:
“The offer was too good to refuse.
But I did not have a choice once Sunderland accepted Al-Ain's proposal.
I am now looking forward to playing in the UAE.”
Gyan joined Sunderland in the summer of 2010 from Rennes for a fee of £13 million and despite injury, went on to make 34 appearances in the English Premier League and score 10 goals. Despite the various new signings during the summer transfer window, Gyan
maintained his position as the first-choice striker.
However, he was known to be unhappy and unsettled at the club after receiving criticism from the Sunderland manager after unsatisfactory performances. Gyan apparently wanted a move away during the summer transfer window but it did not materialise.
According to Bruce, while other clubs had shown interest in the Sunderland striker they had not made offers. He urged the striker to continue on at the Premier League club, and focus on scoring more goals this season. Unfortunately for the Black Cats, Gyan
leaves them after the summer transfer window to join UAE side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Ain-c38290 for the rest of the season.
