  1. I know for a fact that the P-3 Orion and the S-3 Viking had, and some still have, asbestos blankets in the APU compartment for heat shielding.  I know that's not exactly the aircraft you were asking about, but I know a lot of other aircraft used them in the same fashion.  A co-worker was diagnosed with Mesothelioma from a few years around these blankets.

  2. more than likely, around about the exhaust manifold.but not certain, do know that asbestos was used in electric storage heaters in the 70/80s

  3. No,there was no asbestos in 1940s  fighter planes.

  4. More than likely. This stuff was even used in Railway carriages.

For a definitive answer contact a trade union. They will know who you should ask.

Try the transport and general workers union as a starting point.

  5. As the other poster said on the exhaust, most likely on the firewall and possibly on any high voltage wires as it was used as insolation on high voltage wires of the time.
