Aschwin Wildeboer Faber wins the Men’s 350m back-stroke title: Mare Nostrum, Barcelona
Spanish swimmer, Aschwin Wildeboer Faber nabbed the Men’s 350m back-stroke title over New Zealand and Japanese swimmers, Jonathan Duncan and Takeshi Matsuda at the 2011 Mare Nostrum Barcelona in Spain, on June 4, 2011.
The match started in stunning fashion, as Wildeboer was up to the mark against his competitors until the last moments. He took home the marathon event in the 350m back-stroke meet with a fringe margin of 00.61 seconds. Wildeboer Faber finished his distance
in the marathon race with a winning time of 3 minutes and 57.30 seconds.
Faber claimed 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in the Men’s 50m and 100m back-stroke finals at the 2010 World Championships in Dubai. He won one gold and 2 silver titles in the Men’s 200m, 50m and 100m backstroke events at the 2008 European Championships, in
Rijeka. Besides, he took home many other titles in competitive swimming events.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Duncan was placed second with a time of 3 minutes and 57.91 seconds and Takeshi Matsuda rounded out the top three in 3 minutes and 58.11 seconds in the following meet. Hailing from New Zealand, Jonathan Duncan was satisfied with his overall
performance in the 350m back-stroke final. Duncan won 2 gold medals in the Men’s 400m and 1500m freestyle finals at the 2000 Oceanic Swimming Championships in Christchurch.
On the other hand, Olympic bronze medallist, Takeshi Matsuda of Japan was not dissatisfied with her individual performance in the Women’s 350m back-stroke final. She earlier claimed gold medal in the Women’s 200m butterfly final at the 2003 Summer Universiade,
in Daegu.
Earlier, Australian legendary swimmer, Alicia Coutts won the gold medal in the Women’s 100m butterfly final. Coutts said, “My coach (John Fowlie) and I worked on not setting expectations coming into this meet and just letting it happen.I am really happy
with my execution and am just trying to enjoy the great atmosphere here in Europe.”
Currently, Aschwin Wildeboer Faber, Jonathan Duncan and Takeshi Matsuda are preparing hard for the World Championship events in Shanghai, this July.
