Asclepia tuberosa, does anybody grow this ?

I want to atract monarc butterflies to my garden, can you give me some feedback?

  1. Very reliable once it's established.  I grow it.  Produces lots of nectar, comes back every year.

    But if you REALLY want to attract Monarchs - you need to grow Milkweed.  It is what their caterpillars feed on - almost exclusively.  And you'll only keep them around if you have milkweed for them to lay eggs on, which in turn, the caterpillars will feed on before they spin cocoons.  Otherwise, the butterflies may feed on the nectar from the butterfly weed...but unless you have milkweed around, they'll move on to find a more suitable spot for laying eggs and providing fro their offspring.
