Asdrubal Cabrera shines as Cleveland Indians defeat Los Angeles Angels 4-0 – MLB Update
The American League central club Cleveland Indians has emerged as the best team in Major League Baseball on Monday, April 11 acquiring their eighth-straight triumph, defeating rivals Los Angeles Angels 4-0 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
Short-stop Asdrubal Cabrera landed at the plate and sent the ball out of the park hammering a huge grand slam off Angels’ starter Tyler Chatwood in the top of the first inning. After receiving this blow, Chatwood went loose and received a three-run homer,
this time by Laporta in the second inning, allowing the Indians to achieve a 4-0 unbeaten lead.
It was the start that provided Talbot some destructive momentum. He made his second start of the season, pitched eight shut-out innings, allowed scoreless five hits and walked two while striking-out four batters. The right-hand hurler, who allowed just one
earned run over his first four appearances, tossed 72 strikes of 112 pitches and finished his spell with a 1.46 ERA.
It was the day of the Indians as closer Vinnie Pestano followed Mitch and remained scoreless in his single inning while striking-out one batter.
Chatwood went for four runs and walked four over five loose innings. The right-hand ball thrower allowed two home-runs and finished his spell managing three strike-outs with a 7.20 ERA. The 21-year-old was called into the line-up by manager Mike Scioscia
to replace veteran hurler Dan Haren, who was stopped from starting. Haren, with his fast pitches had provided the Angels a win in the 14-inning game on Saturday.
The Angels’ pitcher Francisco Rodriguez relieved Tyler in sixth innings and restricted the opponents to just two scoreless hits. The same was the case with closers Scott Downs and Rich Thompsons, who pitched one shut-out inning each and did not allowed any
run. The reliever Scott, coming of an injury stricken 15-days off inspired team-mates with his fast balls.
The Indians’ starter Mitch Talbot, batters Asdrubal Cabrera and Matt Laporta all played brilliantly to guide their team to victory.
The Indians put in a good performance to beat the Angels. Los Angeles fought hard, but it was not enough for a win on the night.
