Asexual reproduction means an individual is producing other individuals, or "offspring", by copying its own genetic material.  Thus, no mixing of the genetic material as is seen in sexual reproduction.  The only way for diversity to really increase when asexual reproduction is the primary means of reproduction is by mutation.
