Question:

Ashamed of taking antidepressant or other medications?

My doctor put me on 10mg of Prozac for PMS. However, I began feeling outside of myself, extremely depressed and having panic attacks so I began taking the pill daily instead of once a month.

I was just wondering if anyone else was on something and what for? I know a lot of people take medications but it's enlightening to know that I'm not alone.

I almost feel ashamed of taking a pill every morning. Ashamed that I can't be normal or happy without a pill.

  1. Okay, well let's put it this way:  There are a lot of people who have a common illness, Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 (DM1) and they need to take insulin, otherwise they will die.  Other people suffer from severe asthma and require daily asthma medication so they can breathe.  In your case, your physician (an expert in what s/he does) has determined that you are suffering from a treatable condition.  I don't see why you should need to feel ashamed for getting treatment for a treatable disorder.  It would be a greater shame if you failed to seek treatment and continued to suffer needlessly.

  2. I take 8 pills a day.

    I'm not ashamed.

I've done nothing to bring on Bipolar Disorder.

The brain is a part of the body.

Sometimes is doesn't work well and you need medication.

If your heart didn't work well , wouldn't you take medication?

What's the point of suffering unnecessarily?

    Nothing to be ashamed of.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that you take your pills EXACTLY as prescribed.  Don't fool around with them.

If you have concerns, see your doctor as often as necessary.

    Good luck!!

PS Nobody's really normal. They just think they are. :)
