Asher Richardson, Judith Meulendijks register another win in Division 1-Wisden Cup 2012

Mixed Doubles partners Asher Richardson and Judith Meulendijks continued with their top form and smacked Kevin Dennerly Minturn-Stephanie Cheng down in Division 1-Wisden Cup on August 11, 2012.
This gruelling battle was part of a match between Waikato and Auckland which was played at local badminton arena of Hamilton in New Zealand.
Both team put laudable efforts to lock the honour and entertained the audience before ending this tussle with 21-18, 18-21 and 12-21 margin.
Earlier, Waikato was on the verge of defeat with one match point deficit but its spirited campaigners Asher and Judith played with great precision and brought their team to a fighting position.
Though, they took some time to get into right momentum and lost their first set but they never looked back after getting on right track and cruised to a 2-1 victory.
Meanwhile, the opposing team failed to go with same flow in ending two sets and squandered their initial advantage.
The twosome of Kevin and Stephanie registered their mark in the opening game. They kick started their campaign by clinching a few consecutive points. They did not lose this rhythm in next couple of rallies and finished first half as leading contenders.
After mid-game break, Asher-Judith also showed their spark but it was not enough to burn down the opposing team. They could not lift the burden of three-point deficit and knelt down after reading 18-21 score on the board.
However, they managed to hit the mark in following game and turned their rivals’ plan of a straight-set victory into dust.
They set the foundation of their supremacy straight away in the beginning and kept dictating their challengers all the way to game point situation.
In the first half, they placed a respectable total of 11 and utilised this confidence in later part of the game to sweep the table with a favourable figure of 21-18.
The decider, to some extent, proved a dead contest as the Auckland shuttlers disappointed with their below par performance and stayed low in most part of this crucial set.
Asher and Judith did not give them even a single counter-attack opportunity and served notice of their supremacy with confounding knock of 21-12.
