Ashes 2010-11: James Anderson geared up for Perth Test after witnessing daughter’s birth
The linchpin of England’s bowling attack James Anderson is raring to go for the third Ashes Test against Australia after returning from a short trip back home to be present at the birth of his second child. He
did not have much time to spend with his newborn daughter, however, as he rushed back to Australia to prepare for the third Test at the WACA Ground in Perth.
“It was nice to get back in time for the birth and obviously a bit strange leaving after a couple of days but everything is good,” Anderson told BBC Radio 5 live.
Anderson said that he was feeling confident and “surprisingly fresh” despite the long return journey from England to Australia.
"I stayed on Australian time while I was in England which I think has worked well,” said the 28-year-old paceman. “I got back to Perth last night and got about nine hours sleep so I'm feeling pretty good."
With his bowling partner Stuart Broad out with an injury for the rest of the series, it is up to Anderson to lead England’s bowling attack in the upcoming match with even more conviction than his brilliant effort
in the second Test at Adelaide.
England are currently up 1-0 in the Ashes after crushing Australia by an innings and 71 runs at the Adelaide Oval. They now need to win only one of the remaining three tests of the series to win their first Ashes
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 since 1986-87.
The curator at WACA has promised that the pitch will be an exciting one to play on for the fast bowlers, but Anderson observed that he had found it to be quite different from its traditional reputation when he
last played there in November.
"It's nice to hear there might be some pace in the pitch, with a bit of grass left on it," he said. "But we'll have to see what sort of pitch we get. We've still got to prepare as if it's not going to swing. If
it does, then it's a nice bonus for us. Our tour match here [in November] was a lot different to what I remember from four years ago, and how everyone talks about the WACA. It was very slow for what people say is a quick, bouncy pitch, so it will be interesting
to see how different this one is."
Anderson is not sure as to who will be replacing Broad in England’s bowling line-up for Perth, but he did express confidence that all three back-up pacers in the squad (Tim Bresnan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489 and Chris Tremlett) had the ability
to make trouble for the Aussies.
