The English fans known as the Barmy Army promised to rise from the ashes and drown out all the noise of the Aussies at their home ground at Brisbane.
The English supporters arrived for the first Test in full force as they got their oldest member back into their army. The infamous trumpeter, Billy Cooper got a green light by Cricket Australia to return to his army.
Four years ago, Cooper was thrown out of Gabba for bringing in a musical instrument at the 2006-07 series opener in Australia. He could only watch the first session of the opening innings as a police arrested him for “smuggling” the trumpet and playing the
theme music of Neighbours- a very popular Australian soap which starred Kylie Minogue.
The “Barmy Army trumpeter” as he is known was summoned to face the Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s officials as they saw the error in their way of handling the humble English cricket fan.
He was handed over with a special protocol letter that listed down the places where he can blow and where he cannot, it also mentions the time when he can blow his trumpet during the sessions at the Test matches.
Cooper and his 1000-member army now have a commercial partnering license with Cricket Australia where http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cooper-c51561 would be designated a special place from where he can enjoy the game and not disturb other spectators.
Cooper has already submitted a song list with the players’ name to the Gabba management. He would be blowing out the theme song of “Superman” when Kevin Pietersen would be striding on the crease and “Getting Stronger” from the movie Rocky, would be played
as Stuart Broad gives his share with the run-up.
Cricket Australia’s officials admitted that the trumpeter is very popular and brings in a form of entertainment to the game but he needs to know when to stop.
When Cooper was asked as to how he will put off the Australian fans, he cunningly replied by going completely quiet when they bowl.
Billy Cooper is a classically trained musician and a self-proclaimed cricket fanatic who said that as Gabba authorities chose to lift the ban, he would be blowing the trumpet to his heart’s content so as to inspire the England players in order to defend
the title.
