Ashes 2010 Review: England triumph after 24-years
The Ashes series between England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 ended today in Sydney, Australia. The series has been a historical one for England, as they managed to beat Australia Down Under for the first time in 24 years. The victory was for twenty four years in the making
and the English men who actually created the game won the series in a grand style and finally England broke the jinx.
England won the series 3-1, and remarkably won all their games by innings margins; the first time they have done so in Ashes history. Andrew Strauss and his team deserve all the credit for achieving such a rare feat. The victory also marked back-to-back
Ashes series wins for England.
Australia started the series by making a huge impact on the English batting. Peter Siddle stole the show on day one of the opening Test, as he registered a hat-trick on his way to picking up six wickets in the first innings. England however, came back strong
after the early assault, and slowly took away Australia’s chances of success. In the second innings, the English batsmen made the hosts bowling attack look second rate. Alastair Cook played a superb knock and that innings was just the beginning of a very memorable
series for the young opener.
After the visitors managed to draw the first encounter, the second match promised to be an epic battle the two rivals. Much to the disappointment of cricket lovers though, the match turned out to be a one-sided affair, as England outplayed the Australians
in all departments of the game. The visitors played like a team possessed and romped to an innings victory. The highlight of this Test match was the innings by Kevin Pietersen who was heavily criticised for his lack of form. England won the test match with
ease and took a crucial lead in the prestigious Ashes series.
However, the hosts bounced back in style in the following game at Perth, to level the series at 1-1. Australia won by a huge 267-run margin, and it seemed like the home side had found their rhythm again. The hosts dominated the game from start to finish
and brought themselves back into the series. The Australian bowling proved to be the difference in the game, as they never allowed the visitors to settle down. Ryan Harris and Mitchell Johnson were the star bowlers. The dynamic duo took nine wickets each in
the match.
England hit back strongly in the fourth Test and regained the lead in the series. They notched up their second innings win of the series; this time by an innings and 157 runs. Australia was out of the match on day one after they were bundled out for less
than a hundred runs. England put up a huge total of 513 runs, and the hosts failed to come close. The win also meant that the visitors would retain the Ashes urn.
In the final match Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 stood in as captain for the Australian side, after Ricky Ponting injured his finger in the third Test. The match was supposed to be a tough encounter, but England were determined to win the series 3-1. They bowled and batted
superbly to register another innings win. This match also concluded the series. This will probably be one of the most memorable series in the lives of the English players, considering the magnitude of their achievement on this tour.
