Ashes 2010 heroes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alastair-Nathan-Cook-c42852 get Order of the British Empire awards
The English trio of Andy Flower, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 and Alastair Cook, who maneuvered the Ashes 2010 victory, walked away with lucrative awards last night in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Flower, Strauss and Cook played instrumental roles in winning the last Ashes series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, as a coach, captain and batsman respectively.
Since the Ashes series is regarded as the most important Test series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, the trio received great applause and respect from the cricket loving English nation, for bringing home the Trophy.
Last year’s Ashes victory was the second one in a row for England. Under Strauss’s meticulous leadership, the English claimed the Ashes 2009 as well.
Flower, the former Zimbabwean player, trained and guided the team well to triumph over the mighty Kangaroos.
Since his appointment with the England Cricket Board (ECB), Flower has been working hard to perk up the English side. He has good coordination with Strauss, who relies a lot on the coach’s professional expertise and skills.
In yesterday’s award ceremony, Flower and Strauss received the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) awards, while Cook, being the top scorer of the series, received the MBE
(Member of the Order of the British Empire) award.
Strauss was very excited and said, “It is a great honour to receive this accolade. It's one of the better items of post you get through the letterbox – certainly better than a gas bill. They do ask you not to tell people about it. I did tell my wife, but
not anyone else.”
Meanwhile, Flower said, “it is a lovely surprise to receive this honour.”
He further stated, “I feel a great privilege and responsibility to be involved in a leadership role in English sport.”
Cook was also http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Percival-Day-c45927 with the token of respect. He has recently been appointed as Team England’s ODI skipper, after Strauss left the reins to focus on the Test side.
Strauss and Flower are striving hard to make England the top-ranked Test side of the world. Currently, the top brass is with Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 but Strauss is h**l-bent upon clinching it.
The English are now playing a home Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. Out of the two games played so far, they won one and drawn the second. The third and last game will start from June 16, 2011.
