Australia’s veteran batsman Ricky Ponting has stated that the prospect of an Ashes revenge is among his biggest motivators, as he aims to maintain his spot in the Test squad in order to vindicate his team after two successive Ashes defeats in England.
“It's one of the biggest motivators I have,” said the right-hander. “Every morning I get up and go to the gym and I'm pounding away at the treadmill, it's with some of the memories of The Oval on the last couple of tours.”
Ponting, counted among http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s modern greats, was abruptly axed from the national ODI squad earlier this year, after he fell into a batting slump which intensified during the Commonwealth Bank series Australia hosted in February this year.
Dropped unexpectedly from the squad mid-series, the right-hander was forced to concede that his ODI career was over – however, he went on to express his eagerness at continuing to play Test cricket for the country.
The veteran cricketer has the experience of 165 Tests (with 13346 runs to his credit) and 375 ODIs (13704 runs) under his belt. However, at 37, Ponting will be expected to maintain his form and prove his worth during the matches building up to the 2013 Ashes.

“If I can make it through to the end of that, that would be great,” he said. “If I can play well enough to have an impact on some wins through that period that would be great as well ... all I can focus on now is being right for the start of November.”

Australia recently conceded a shocking defeat during a limited-overs tour of England, and will need to improve their performances in the longer format of the game if they are to have a shot at ending their losing streak against their arch-rivals.
