Ashes Twitter banter: Shane Warne slams Cricket Australia’s selection panel
The Australian cricket team and anything related to it has been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons. As if the 17 man squad announcement wasn’t enough to be criticised, the trimmed down 13 man Ashes squad is facing harsh
disapprovals from former cricketing legends.
The latest being Shane Warne who does not refrain from commenting about anything. Warne hopped aboard the pre-Ashes ‘pressure building’ wagon on the selectors as well as Australian Captain Ricky Ponting. He blasted Cricket Australia’s
national selection panel headed by Chairman Andrew Hillditch for dropping Nathan Hauritz in the first Test scheduled to begin on the 25th of November.
Warne used his favourite medium to slam the selectors, Twitter- the micro blogging website. He called the omission of Hauritz “very very harsh” and “dumb.”
Debutante left-arm Xavier Doherty and leg-spinner Steve Smith booked a place in the 13 man squad as Hauritz failed to perform in the Sheffield Shield match for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854.
Warne has been backing Hauritz since his faltering form in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s number one spinner.”
He posted on his Twitter account that Hauritz has a good “record in Australia” of a brilliant average of 29 with over four wickets in a single Test.
Warne’s criticism might be directed towards Captain Ricky Ponting as it is widely believed that he has influenced the selector’s decision to not call Hauritz for the first Test and instead select Doherty , who has been called upon
specifically to make batting difficult for England’s Kevin Piertersen.
Doherty showed some level of potential in his first international One Day against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 earlier this month, but many critics question his inexperience in the Test match especially in an important challenge such as the Ashes.
Doherty has boasted a bowling average of almost 50 after nine seasons in domestic cricket.
Aussie selector’s panel Chairman, Hilditch claimed that Haurtiz was “unlucky” because of his record in the past 12 months. However, Warne slammed the chairman saying he has a great record and he has experience which Doherty lacked.
Meanwhile, Hauritz’s father Terry Hauritz has claimed that the selectors have been playing “mind games” with his son as he was in a “state of confusion” about his treatment by Cricket Australia.
