Ashes mania: Botham and Chappell rekindle dead coals (Part II)
So how the world’s greatest partisans crossed roads? The fighters belonged to two countries which are poles apart. They share similar first names, they fought for something they both loved, and they anchored their militaries to celebrated heights. They are
geographically located in different continents but as they say it is a small world. Both the lone warriors have heard about each other but they had yet to clash.
It seemed that the power vested above was finally listening as their roads finally crossed. There are two versions in the history of the warriors. The year is the same, the place is the same, but the clash clearly contradicts.
Beefy recounts that in 1977, he had a coveted assignment to travel to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. Mr Knight travelled far and beyond the basin areas of the land down under where he was to learn the Aussie tactics to take with him back home. He had a pencil moustache so as
to appear a 21 year old, full of life youngster who was travelling abroad for the first time.
He reached Melbourne and he ended up at a shabby hotel belonging to the Hiltons. Just as he entered the glass doors, due to his training he had a habit of taking in the surroundings. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 saw everything that was expected in the Hilton Hotel but there
was no chandeliers instead cobwebs hung around with rowdy group of people clustering around a radio set. There were trashy looking females around as well and 2 year old girl with pink frock also playing in the corner with a dirty Chihuahua. The Knight felt
the urge to save this young girl as it was against his values to see the little angel at such a place yet he knew he had one mission and he needed to stick to that.
He found a high stool at the bar. He ordered a beer and settled himself, taking in the woody smell of Australia. The Knight looked around and to his left or right-he wasn’t sure- he saw a man. The man was slouched as he caressed an alcohol bottle. He was
also hooded just like Beefy, yet he seemed familiar to the Knight somehow. His stature made him stand out of the football crowd, even though he was sitting. The Knight could not make it who the hooded person was owing to the bad light in the bar. He however,
decided to introduce himself to the strange man because he needed to get information about the Aussie psyche.
The Knight said, “nice place, huh?” to which the person replied a pig like grunt. Not a good start. So the Knight tried to remember his communication skills class and introduced himself as Ian Botham. The man replied “Chappell” and did not bother to shake
hands. Botham decided to test his nerves and started small talk. Chappell started warming up to the
young chap and asked him about his accent. The Knight told him he is from the inlands of Europe and the clearly drunk Chappell started rambling about the ruling British people. Chappell- who was the same Samurai that everyone feared- was unaware of
the fact that Botham was the British “Knight.”
Botham, who was also unaware of the Samurai’s presence, waited for Chappell ramblings to end but the very patriotic Knight had enough of the bashing. He exchanged a few heated words between them but then things went out control and the Knight settled in
for a blow on Chappell’s face. As they stood up, both eyed each other before removing their hoods and revealing their true identities. The two warriors have waited for this moment in anticipation.
