Ashes update: Concerns over Ricky Ponting’s future
Ricky Ponting lost the third Ashes series of his captaincy career. The Ashes series is dream of every Australian and English player to win. Over the years Ponting has been the topnotch batsmen, as a player and a captain. However, things are not the same
like before. Top Aussie players, retired from international cricket, were gravely missed in the Ashes .Players like Justin Langer, Mathew Hayden and Damien Martyn in particular were prime batsmen for Australia and they gave the stability to the batting lineup.
The Attack was lead by Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee and that can never be substituted with any talent. Power house in bowling, Shane Warne was a nightmare for every English player. Once these players left the international arena, the Aussie team could not reach
the crescendo they were known for.
Ricky Ponting has been a great server for the Australian team for both the Test cricket and One Day International format. Ponting is on the second spot in most runs in a career in Test matches. He has played 152 Tests and scored 12,363 runs with an average
of 53.51. He is the only current player, who can seriously challenge the fifty centuries record of Sachin Tendulkar. With all these brilliant stats in the past, his recent form with the bat is awful and this is raising fingers on his future by experts and
fans. The way the Aussie lineup has shaped up, he might not be excluded from the side. However, demoting him from the captaincy is in the air.
Today Australia lost to arch rivals in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, by an innings and 157 runs. This was the second match they lost in this series and with the win; England leads the series 2-1 and regains the Ashes. Two innings defeats for Australia at their home ground
in a Test series is a brand new experience for the world. After all this disastrous series, Ricky Ponting is thinking about his future. He commented,
“I’ve got to make the decision that I feel is right for Australian cricket right at the moment … As a player and a captain I still think I've got a lot to offer the Australian cricket team, but I've got to sit down and obviously think about that at the end
of this game.”
