  1. Freights only in your area.

If memory serves me correctly, there was some type of restriction through that area.  Amtrak goes as far north as Dunsmuir on that piece of rail, then cuts over on another line to Klammath Falls, Chemult, Eugene, Salem and Portland.

It had something to do with the type of locomotives that Amtrak is using , (I think), Hoghead, Rango or Andy F will probably have more insight on that.

We all have been wondering what the issue is with that.

Mainly us Foamers, who ride Amtrak.  The pass at Chemult is closed right now due to a large landslide.  We thought they could just use an alternate route into Portland for the time being, but that was not the case.

Its due to open at the end of the month, but from my information, it will probably be mid May before they get the work done.

Closest Amtrak Service in to you would either be Dunsmuir or Klammath Falls, maybe Chemult.

    Good Luck!

  2. Former SP track-age.

The Siskiyou line, running from Black Butte to Springfield Junction below Eugene was short-lined to become the CORP (California Oregon Pacific).

It is my old seniority district and I was actually the road engineer on the second to last SP train to operate westward out of Ashland.

Grades were as heavy as 3.1 per cent between Ashland and Black Butte, which is a part of the I-5 corridor a few miles north of Dunsmuir.

There is no Amtrak service operating on this turkey trail.
