Ashleigh Barty downs Katharina Lehnert in Girls’ singles second round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
No real trouble for the 12th seed Australian, Ashleigh Barty, to dispose of the German qualifier, Katharina Lehnert in the second round of Girls’ Singles category at the Wimbledon Championships on Wednesday afternoon.
The 15-year-old Australian continued with her blistering form in the Grand Slam tournament and absolutely blew away Lehnert in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, wrapping up the contest in less than an hour. The one-sided contest lasted
for merely fifty one minutes before Barty ousted Lehnert to force her way to the third round of Wimbledon.
Played at the Court 15 of All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, England, the matchup was totally dominated by the hard-hitting Aussie. Despite a poor first serve precision of just 44 per cent, Barty reeled off 17
out of 19 points on it to come out as the winner.
The 12th seed Australian’s serve remained unbroken in the contest as Lehnert never went even closer to a break point in the entire contest, while dropping her serve four times to finish the match on the losing side.
The German struck just five winners in the matchup, in reply to Barty’s 17 thudding winners.
Barty took off the opening set in the most aggressive manner, winning all the nine first serve points and belting eight cracking winners. Before Lehnert could get settled in the contest, the Aussie had broken her serve twice to
race to 6-1, getting one up in the contest in opening 28 minutes of play.
Lehnert failed to recover from the early loss she suffered at the hands of the Aussie, and slumped further in the next set, dropping serve twice more to bestow victory over Barty. The Australian rocket to victory in the 51st minute
of play, finishing off the second set at 6-2, to book a place in the third round of the Wimbledon Championships.
Barty will next face America’s Madison Keys in the third round for a place in the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam tournament. Keys won her match against Zara Razafimahatratra of Madagascar in straight sets 6-2, 6-1, earlier on
Wednesday.
