Ashleigh Barty one step away from qualifying for main round of 2012 Australian Open – Tennis News
15-years-old Ashleigh Barty has stunned sixth-seeded local Arina Rodinova in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to march into the finale of the Australian Open wildcard playoffs. She has been very consistent throughout the tournament and has
nothing to lose at all.
Her approach to each game has made it possible for her to make it to just one step away from the main round of the one of the world’s most prestigious event in the field of tennis, Australian Open.
The final becomes much more exciting when we see the other finalist to be her room-mate. Olivia Rogowska is the other finalist and she will try to stop this onslaught from the 15-year-old and try to register a place for the second
time in a row in the first round of Australian Open.
They both have been sharing a room and live nearby, sometimes practice together and stay in contact most of the time. Now they will have to forget all their friendship and think about making it to the elitist event.
If Barty wins the final, it will be her debut appearance in the 2012 Australian Open but if her counterpart wins it than she will be making her second appearance having lost the first round match earlier this year.
Talking about Barty, her room-mate said “We're both in the AIS, so we do hit with each other a few times whenever she's in Melbourne. She's a very solid competitor and I'm going to have to play some top tennis to beat her. It should
be interesting."
Rogowska praised her compatriot’s performance in the wildcard playoffs and stated that she has always admired her to be one of the best upcoming talents of Australia and seeing her playing for such a grand event will definitely
boost her morale. It will never be an easy fight at all.
Barty was totally stunned at her performance as well and said that she has always enjoyed playing at any level and winning any match has always brought excitement for her. She proclaimed that she has never talked about tennis with
her school friends because they are just too young to understand the complexity of the game. She said “We have a pretty odd group at school so I think we just talk a lot of c**p."
Australian teenager has this outstanding opportunity to prove her worth and make a name for her at such young age. If she manages to defeat the three time playoffs finalist, it will be one of the greatest achievements for the junior
Wimbledon champion.
