Ashley Armstrong, the golfer from Flossmoor, Illinois has been awarded the 2010 Jerry Cole Sportsmanship Award at the ceremony of the American Junior Golf Association's Rolex Junior All-America Awards.
The American Junior Golf Association has been recognizing golfers since 1978 and considers a players performance in the classroom as well as the individual's sportsman like conduct. The AJGA awarded Ashley Armstrong a ‘Jerry Cole’
Sportsmanship Award that has been honouring great virtues displayed by certain individuals. The award focuses on those personalities that demonstrate merits such as veracity and true-heartedness that highlights the intrinsic worth of such clauses in life.
Armstrong grabbed the award because of her work with the Kids Golf Foundation. The foundation is based in Illinois and hails the work carried out by Armstrong, as in addition to the aforementioned foundation, she has also worked
with the AJGA's Leadership Links Program. The female golfer had been able to raise around $5,000 with her birdie brawl for the kids at the Illinois Golf Foundation.
Other than generously heaving stock for a cause considered as admirable, Armstrong is also able to spend her time supporting the Kids Golf Foundation. As far as the youth is concerned, the female golfer also volunteers to teach
young golfers and has been able to be a paradigm at the Solheim Cup in 2009.
According to Armstrong, rather than winning or losing it’s much better to know what sportsmanship is all about. She defined sportsmanship as holding a temperament as well as veracity and how one carries him or herself overall.
The AJGA Notre Dame Junior Open held in 2009 is a fine example of Armstrong’s character and integrity. The female golfer faced a crucial moment when she carded a lower score in her card by mistake in the ultimate round. The tournament
had ended and Armstrong had been awarded the trophy but this continued only till the golfer realized her mistake. After Armstrong came to know about the slip-up, she laid down her club and admitted defeat after informing the tournament director.
Armstrong believes that had she not surrendered that day, today would still be hard on her. She said that the previously stated experience had helped her a lot in life and had taught her how to make the right decision at the right
time.
“I made the right decision” Armstrong said.
Along with Armstrong, Anthony Paolucci had been awarded the Player of the Year at the Rolex Junior All-America Awards Banquet. The player from Rancho Santa Fe, California stood in the ceremony along with Kristen Park along with
96 players from the Rolex Junior All-America Teams as well as 24 members of the HP Scholastic Junior All-America Team.
