Ashley Cole tips youngsters to flourish at Chelsea
Chelsea and England full-back Ashley Cole has given his backing to a number of the club’s youngsters who are currently looking to break into the first team. Cole told Sky Sports News:
“It's always nice to see these young guys coming through like Josh [McEachran], Gael [Kakuta], [Jeffrey] Bruma, Pat van Aanholt. You have these young guys and they’re training with us every day so I think they’re definitely going to be good enough and it’s
only going to help them gain experience.”
The former Arsenal defender went on to state that the new youngsters being blooded have given the side a new blend, after a number of older, more experienced players left in the summer.
“I think it’s good. Of course, when you look back you do miss characters. We lost [Michael] Ballack and people like Joe Cole, Deco, Ricky [Ricardo] Carvalho and great players, but again
we've started well this season and who knows what can happen. I think as a club the main thing is to try bringing these young guys through because the older guys are not going to be there forever. It is, at the minute, a good mix but of course it is nice as
fans that they’re seeing young guys coming through now,” Cole explained.
Chelsea have been renowned for their experience in recent years, with many of their players around the 30 barrier. It has been a large factor in the club’s machine-like consistency and
refined approach which has brought so much success. But now, Carlo Ancelotti may be adopting a different approach, one which has been a long term plan of club owner Roman Abramovich for a few years now. The Russian is looking to cut major spending and instead
has declared his preference for bringing through players from the youth system. This season’s influx of youngsters is just the start.
