Ashley Fiolek to miss the X Games medal race for the second consecutive year
American professional motocross rider (MX) Ashley Fiolek has withdrawn from the upcoming X Games Los Angeles for the second year in a row.
The two-time X Games Moto X gold medallist is still in the process of recovering from a concussion that she suffered in a crash at Women’s Motocross (WMX) Moto 2 in Lakewood, Colorado, earlier this month.
"[The crash] happened recently, three weeks ago. It was a bad one. I don't remember I finished the race -- I guess I finished the race, I don't know. I don't remember anything. I crossed the finish line, I finished in sixth place," Fiolek said.
After consulting with her doctors, the Florida-based rider decided put her health and future before her career and therefore give her head more time to heal and not risk making her injury even worse.
“It is with great sadness that I must withdraw from the 2012 ESPN X Games, I am absolutely heartbroken that I will miss this year but I need to do what is right for my health and my future,” Fiolek said in a statement released by her family.
The latest concussion in the series of injuries had already made her miss the 2012 American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Women’s Motocross Championships that went down at High Point MX in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania and is now preventing her from returning
to the latest edition of X Games in Los Angeles.
The Saint Augustine-based rider is no stranger to broken bones and traumatic head injuries. After making her X Games debut in 2009 and walking away with Women’s Moto X Super X gold medal, she returned to the biggest stage in action sports to claim yet another
top-podium finish. However, a crash in preliminary round during 2011 X Games kept her off the podium.

Fiolek conceded that she was quite used to racing with broken bones. After suffering the latest concussion, she had visited the doctor to get it checked out and came back home with the knowledge that she had been riding with a broken pelvis for some time
now.
However, dealing with a head injury is a completely different thing and she avoids riding until she recovers from them. According to her, she has suffered seven head injuries since becoming a professional motocross rider.
