Ashley McGregor captures Women’s 200m breast-stroke title: 2011 Pan American Games
Canadian swimmer, Ashley McGregor impressed Guadalajara’s arena due to her versatile swim at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico, on Thursday, October 20. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 200m breast-stroke race.
McGregor began the final heat in strong fashion and thrashed out her rivals, Haley Spencer of United States of America and Michelle McKeehan by powering the finishing wall in a record breaking time of 2 minutes and 28.04 seconds to claim Women’s 200m breast-stroke title.
Haley Spencer produced a wonderful swim in the arena and claimed silver medal by posting a winning time of 2 minutes and 29.30 seconds. In the meantime, three-time Pan American Games medallist, Michelle McKeehan picked bronze medal in a time of 2 minutes and 30.51 seconds. McKeehan was the double gold medallist in 100m breast-stroke and 4x100m medley at the 2007 Pan American Games, staged in Rio de Janeiro.
Alia Atkinson of Jamaica thrashed out Hanna Pierse of Canada and Julia Sebastian of Argentina by touching the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 30.96 seconds to earn fourth place honours in the respective race. Pierse finished at fifth spot in a time of 2 minutes and 31.06 seconds, while Sebastian earned sixth position in the respective meet by posting a time of 2 minutes and 32.74 seconds.
Moreover, Byanca Rodriguez of Mexico gave the best attempt and notched seventh position by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 35.15 seconds. Last, but not the least, Mijal Asis of Argentina settled for eighth place after she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 35.21 seconds.
The dedicated performances of swimmers including Ashley McGregor, Haley Spencer and Michelle McKeehan impressed Mexico’s crowd, while the toppers were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
The 2011 Pan American Games is offering plenty of exciting opportunities to both young guns and senior level athletes to prepare themselves hard for their upcoming meets of swimming at the London Olympic Games, in 2012.
