Ashley McGregor captures Women’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day four – Canadian Summer Nationals
Ashley McGregor of Pointe-Claire Swim Club captured gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on last day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Sunday, July 22.
McGregor entered the final round as second fastest swimmer but with her unrelenting efforts in the playoff, she shattered hopes of her supporters and snared the crown of the event.
With her immaculate efforts, she managed to outperform her closest challenger over the finishing end for first position with a wonderful timing of 2 minutes and 27.24 seconds.
Her gold claiming effort remained 0.31 seconds ahead of Kierra Smith of LLSC, who followed her on the victory stand for second position by clocking a fantastic effort of 2 minutes and 27.55 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Sarah-Lee Hevey of CAMO, who stayed nearly four seconds apart and made her way to the finishing end for bronze medal by producing a nice time of 2 minutes and 31.33 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Mariya Chekanovych of Simon Fraser Aquatics, who remained 0.16 seconds slower and secured fourth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 31.49 seconds.
Similarly, Chekanovych was chased by Chelsey Salli of LOSC, who remained just 0.26 seconds apart and secured fifth position of the discipline by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 31.75 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson of Go Kingfish, who stayed 0.21 seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 31.96 seconds.
Seltenreich-Hodgson was traced by Tianna Rissling of AMAC, who stayed two body lengths apart and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 33.82 seconds.
Subsequently, Rissling was followed by Esther Gonzalez of OSC, who stayed 0.24 seconds behind and hit the finishing blockade for eighth position by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 34.06 seconds.
In addition, McGregor was pleased with her unmatchable form in the distant breaststroke discipline while the crowd acknowledged her marvellous sprint at the medal distribution ceremony of the event.
