Ashley McGregor earns Women’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day two – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Ashley McGregor of Pointe-Claire Swim Club earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Friday, July 20.
McGregor spoiled the party of her fellow swimmers in the 100m discipline as she went full rampant in the race and proved her audacity for gold medal of the discipline.
With her impeccable efforts, she dominated the race from the start and earned her way to the top of medal rostrum for gold medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 08.87 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Kierra Smith of LLSC, who remained 0.15 seconds slower from her and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 09.02 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Rachel Nicol of LASC, who stayed just 0.10 seconds apart and snared bronze medal of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 09.12 seconds.
Fourth position of the breaststroke discipline was secured by Tianna Rissling of AMAC, who stayed 0.18 seconds away from occupying the bronze medal and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 09.30 seconds.
Subsequently, Rissling was trailed by Mariya Chekanovych of Simon Fraser Aquatics, who stayed 0.70 seconds slower from her former finisher and earned fifth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 10.00 seconds.
Chekanovych was followed by Chelsey Salli of LOSC, who remained only 0.10 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 10.10 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh finest spot of the swim was secured by Fiona Doyle of UCSC, who stayed almost full body length apart and hit the finishing blockade with an effort of 1 minute and 10.87 seconds.
Doyle was trailed by Rebecca Terejko of WRMS, who finished eighth in the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 11.08 seconds.
Furthermore, McGregor was extremely happy with her title-claiming effort and received her medal at the prize ceremony of the championship.
