Ashley Steenvoorden wins Women’s 400m freestyle heat – 2011 USA Swimming Long Course Nationals
Ashley Steenvoorden of Minnesota Aquati dominated day one of 2011 USA Swimming Long Course Nationals in competitive swimming in Paloalto, California, on Tuesday, August 2.
The session of the long course nationals conducted the Women’s 400m freestyle and Men’s 400m Individual Medley prelims. Steenvoorden won the 400m freestyle heat, while Andrew Gemmell of Delaware Swim secured the 400m IM preliminary race.
Initially, Steenvoorden came out vigorously and won the Women’s 400m freestyle heat with a winning time of 4 minutes and 09.16 seconds. Chloe Sutton of Mission Viejo finished second in 4 minutes and 09.36 seconds, while Gillian Ryan of Parkland Aquatic settled
third in a time of 4 minutes and 09.87 seconds.
Allison Schmitt of North Baltimore was placed fourth in 4 minutes and 09.92 seconds, while Catherine Breed of Pleasanton Seaha finished fifth in a time of 4 minutes and 09.95 seconds. Elizabeth Beisel of Bluefish Swim earned sixth spot in 4 minutes and 10.04
seconds, whereas, Haley Anderson of Swim Club settled seventh in 4 minutes and 10.54 seconds. Rachel Naurath of Nova of Virginia finished eighth in a time of 4 minutes and 10.64 seconds.
Meanwhile, Andrew Gemmell of Delaware Swim took home the Men’s 400m IM heat with a victorious time of 4 minutes and 18.33 seconds. Lake Forest’s Conor Dwyer wound up second in 4 minutes and 18.75 seconds, while Rober Margalis of Fast Swim Team rounded out
the top three on the podium in 4 minutes and 19.01 seconds. Jack Brown of University of Mi finished fourth in 4 minutes and 19.39 seconds, whereas, William Harris of Una Troj placed fifth in a time of 4 minutes and 19.59 seconds.
Auste Thompson of Tucson Ford Deal finished sixth in 4 minutes and 20.45 seconds, whereas, Michael Weiss of Wisconsin Aquati was placed seventh in a time of 4 minutes and 21.35 seconds. Joshua Prenot of Santa Maria Swim settled eighth in 4 minutes and 21.42
seconds.
William Cregar of Athens Bulldog was placed ninth in a time of 4 minutes and 22.04 seconds, while Benjam Hinshaw of Palo Alto Stanfo finished tenth in 4 minutes and 22.12 seconds.
