Ashley Twichell captures Women’s 10km gold: Day one – 2012 Open Water National Championship
Ashley Twichell astonished the spectators by capturing gold medal of the Women’s 10km swim on opening day of the 2012 Open Water National Championship at Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club in Fort Myers, Florida on Friday, April 27.
The 22-year-old Twichell, who occupied gold medal of the 5km open water team event at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, devastated hopes of her supporters by seizing gold medal of the 10km discipline.
With her epic pace, she remained considerably faster from her following swimmer and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 2 hours, 03 minutes and 06.038 seconds for gold medal.
Her immaculate effort was trailed by Haley Anderson of Trojan Swim Club-CA, who suffered a loss of almost 44 seconds and reached the victory stand for silver medal by clocking a time of 2 hour, 03 minutes and 50.448 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Twichell’s team-member, Christine Jennings, who stayed almost six seconds slower and ended her race with an effort of 2 hours, 03 minutes and 56.451 seconds.
Jennings was followed by Eva Fabian of Greenwood Memorial Swim Club-NE, who crossed the finishing line as fourth best swimmer with the timing of 2 hours, 03 minutes and 56.558 seconds.
Similarly, Fabian remained almost one second faster from Tristin Baxter of Unattached, who earned fifth position of the discipline by producing a time of 2 hours, 03 minutes and 57.786 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Gillian Ryan of North Baltimore Aquatic Club-MD, who ended her 10km swim by submitting a time of 2 hours, 03 minutes and 58.689 seconds.
Seventh best spot of the race was obtained by Emily Brunemann of Fast Swim Team-CA, who remained marginally slower from her former finisher and reported a time of 2 hours, 03 minutes and 59.619 seconds.
Following that, Rachel Zillinskas of Germantown Academy Aquatic CI-MA ended her swim in fourth place as she touched the wall with the timing of 2 hours, 04 minutes and 02.200 seconds.
In addition, the position holders were awarded medals and accolades for their notable efforts after the session.
