Ashley Wanland dominates Women’s 100m breaststroke heats: Day three – Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Ashley Wanland of University of Wisconsin dominated the preliminary rounds of Women’s 100m breaststroke on day three of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Sunday, June 10.
The 22-year-old Wanland made no mistake in the initial round of the 100m event and proved her mettle for second position of the discipline. With her incredible pace in the double lap breaststroke discipline, she managed to enter the final round as top fastest
swimmer.
Wanland served notice of her talent in the two-lap race as she sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for first position with the timing of 1 minute and 09.40 seconds.
Her scintillating effort was chased by Ann Chandler of Tucson Ford Deal, who stayed almost 0.80 seconds behind and secured second best qualification spot of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 10.21 seconds.
Similarly, Chandler enjoyed a benefit of 0.19 seconds over her team-member, Amanda Beard, who qualified into the playoff as third fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 1 minute and 10.40 seconds.
Beard was followed by Ellyn Baumgardner of Curl Burke Swim, who remained 0.75 seconds away and entered the playoff as fourth best finisher with the timing of 1 minute and 11.15 seconds.
Fifth best qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Brittany Kimmitt of University of Wisconsin, who was 1.22 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 12.37 seconds.
Kimmitt remained 0.13 seconds faster from Gisselle Kohoyda of Cardinal Aquatics-KY, who remained prominent for sixth position of the discipline by submitting a time of 1 minute and 12.50 seconds.
The 20-year-old Kohoyda was chased by Paulina Gralow of Wisconsin Aquatics, who was just 0.09 seconds behind and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 12.59 seconds for seventh position.
Last qualification spot of the race was obtained by Laura Day of Monument Swim Academy, who was nearly half body length slower from her former swimmer and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 13.31 seconds.
Furthermore, these contestants will contest each other in the final round where the winners will rake medals.
