Ashley Young reveals that United made contact with Aston Villa in January – English Premier League
Ashley Young revealed in an interview to Manchester United’s official website that the club made contact for his services with his former employers Aston Villa way back in January of 2011. Aston Villa, who bought Young from Watford
under the management of Martin O’Neill, saw the Englishman develop into a world class winger. Young was a consistent performer for Villa as he played in various positions for the Villains under O’Neill as well as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier.
Villa’s former manager Gerard Houllier came out and said last year that Young’s best position was just behind the striker as a central winger but things have changed at Villa Park since Houllier’s departure as Young was sold by
the Birmingham club to Manchester United in the summer transfer window of 2011. Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson’s men made contact with Villa way back in January when they were looking to add to their squad but both the clubs agreed to talk about the matter in summer after
the season had come to a close.
Young helped Villa retain their English Premier League status after they were seen as relegation contenders in the last few weeks of the Premier League season. After nervy finish to the season for Villa, Young was finally sold
to United where he has a brilliant start to his new career. The former Watford winger assisted United’s first goal of the match against Manchester City before firing them to a 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion on the previous weekend. Young has developed
an immediate understanding with his new team mates as well which bodes well for his future at Old Trafford.
When asked about when he discovered that Manchester United were interested in his services, Ashley Young responded by explaining, “I actually found out about it in January. At the time we were in a bit of a sticky situation at
Villa and in a battle to stay up, so the clubs said they’d talk again in the summer and see where things were. There were other clubs interested but as soon as I heard about the interest from United I just wanted to get here and sign. I knew it was the right
club. Everyone, not just the players but all the staff as well, made me feel very welcome from day one.”
Ferguson started with Young in his starting line up for United’s opening Premier League encounter against West Bromwich Albion but it remains to be seen whether he will start with the Englishman when United face off against Tottenham
next Monday in the English Premier League.
